For over a decade we have been New Zealand's go-to online store for parents, teachers and support staff of children and adults with autism spectrum disorder and other special needs. Our wide range of books, Time Timers and sensory products have been hand selected by us to specifically meet the needs of those with autism spectrum disorder and their wider community.
Supporting a Person With Autism Spectrum Disorder
If you have met one person with autism, you have met one person with autism.
Every autistic person is 100% unique. Just as neurotypical people have strengths and weaknesses, so do people with ASD (autism spectrum disorder).
A developmental disorder, it is estimated that 1-2 people in every 100 are on the autism spectrum. Called a spectrum for a reason, the level of support someone requires will depend upon the areas (language skills, social skills and cognitive and thinking skills) they have a delay or difficulties with.
Having both the knowledge and experience of supporting autistic individuals and their communities, our resources have been carefully selected to meet a wide variety of needs, interests and abilities. Our popular Time Timers range is the largest in the country, making it easier to find the ideal model for every user. Our sensory products, including the Chew Stix range and chewy necklaces are ideal for oral sensory seekers, with the bean bags great for those seeking deep pressure. We stock a wide range of books for learning and teaching both adults and children about autism, including a collection written by ASD expert Tony Attwood.
Specific instructional teaching by parents, family members and teachers can make significant contributions towards the social, physical and emotional well-being of a person with autism. The resources required in terms of time, physical support, role modeling and teaching will vary, as will the physical autism resources and tools too.
We understand how confusing and challenging it can be when faced with an autism diagnosis, whether it is yourself, a loved one or a student in your classroom. If you would like assistance in selecting the most suitable products, recommendations for books or help in choosing a visual timer, we'd love to help.
